I understand (pray?) that I500SMS will allow me to send an SMS without being connected, and to receive SMS's as 1-way text notifications.

1) You have to be connected to vision to send email or sms on Sprint. Since Sprint does not provide a true MO-SMS, everything is essentially through the data network. Also, unless you have a free and clear plan, vision should be unlimited for most SPH users.
2) Are you sure about that? If someone sends a message to mynumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com, I get a text message on my Treo 300? I don't have to access any site to read it...
3) Like I said above, you have to be connected to vision to use an app like Treo300SMS and probably I500SMS. This usually isn't a problem b/c you just keep vision connected 24/7 unless you experience problems like turbo drain. However, I haven't heard if any i5 users have expereiced that problem as of yet. If you're paying more $50/month and you have a free and clear plan, then you should really consider switching to a free and clear plan w/vision. It's truely worth it...
