It appears that tomtom is not the most friendly program out there. i struggled with their install for a week, finally figuring out that, 1. they sent me CD's that won't load into a wm5 OS. I needed to download all their stuff. 2. I discovered that the tomtom software will not work with many GPS receivers because they don't do v2.2 of the standard. V2 may work but they claim it will not be 100%, whatever that means. So, after finally getting the software and maps installed with downloads from their support center, v 5.21 BTW, I now just bit the bullet and sent them another order for their 100% compatible BT receiver. I would have purchased it in the first place but their advertising led me to believe it would work with other NMEA 0183v2 (from memory) GPS receivers. Not so!
Also, a tip for you. When you want to try to pair your GPS receiver and need to set up a comport, you do NOT need to go to the hack trouble, at least not on the XV6700. If you go into settings/system and set the GPS ports to what you want and is available; then on soft reset those seem to show up in the tomtom GPS config list. I got that far, ie the GPS receiver was paired and the com ports all matched but the data from the receiver could not be translated. Frustrating. The receiver I have does work with other GPS software so I know it is functional! I just happened to like the tomtom so I went with that, having no idea that it was such an obtuse installation full of incompatibilities.
