Someone else on that thread mentioned that editing the file by browsing to it while it is synced from your desktop computer should work. This may be true, but it looks like it is not easily done without some tweaking.

Ok, I figured this one out - and it works great. But best of all its simple. Instead of trying to edit the .lnk file, which is a ______, just goto the desired homepage, (I use google), save it as a favorite, and then copy the link from favorites to your windows directory. Then rename the existing default.htm file in the same directory to [insertnamehere].htm. finally, rename the favorite file you copied to default.htm.

I've tested and retested - survives a soft reboot but don't ever open the old renamed default.htm file because it will automatically resync to that file and you'll have to repeat the process from scratch.
