Because of the way WM5 works with memory, when you change the registry, the change is made in RAM and then saved to ROM. If you do a soft reset to fast (before it is written to ROM), the changes will not be saved and will be lost. My guess is this is what is happening to you. I always wait a few minutes before a reset and I don't use the reset hole (I use a software reboot program).
