So looks like I'll have to buy a few of these USB/MiniUSB cables

It's interesting that the cable I have was originally mae for the Audiovox 5600 Smartphone. My wife bought one to try out (what a nice little package...came with EVERYTHING and it was a pretty nice phone, really). When she returned it, she forgot to put back in the package the USB data cable and the headphones. The Cingular store didn't really care so long as they got the phone and the major components back.
Well, this cable works BEAUTIFULLY with this phone. Just a straight cable, nothing funky or fancy about it. My laptop is seeing EV-DO speeds (haven't done any bandwith testing, but it's pretty darn obvious it's zipping along). Beats the crap out of the 1x system. However, I'll take DUN with the 6700 no matter WHICH system it's presently using when I'm on the road.
