The Scoop on Bluetooth Profiles
OK guys... good news and bad news.
Bad news first...
1. There is no A2DP or AVRCP profiles. This was not really surprising, given that the 6700 is using the Microsoft stack, but there was some hope as of late that it might have made it in... not that I can see. I was able to pair successfully with my HP Bluetooth headphones, but when it came time to select the service(s) to use the list was empty.
2. Voice command is not activated when pressing the MFB (multi-function button) on a BT headset. At least it doesn't work with my Logitech Mobile Freedom. I didn't necessarily expect it to, since unlike the Universal the Apache doesn't come with any pre-installed Voice control software.
Now onto the good news!!
1. The 6700 supports the Audio Gateway profile out of the box!! This means that without doing anything special, windows audio will be played through your BT headset. I discovered this by accident while testing Orb with my headset on my ear. All of a sudden I was hearing the TV audio in my ear! This will be very good for GPS users with BT car kits, as well as for Orb and other low-fi audio sources. I would never use this to listen to mp3s because the audio quality of this method is like that of a telephone conversation. The frequency response is just nothing close to what it needs to be to get good audio quality. But like I said, it's great for voice prompts, audiobooks, and orb TV audio (which is already compressed fairly low sound quality).
2. Overall performance of Bluetooth on the 6700 is fantastic, especially when paired with other BT 1.2 peripherals. My logitech headset is BT 1.2, so it can take advantage of the increased quality and reliability. I was able to walk 40 feet away from my PPC without one hint of static or dropouts. Compared to the 6600 this is a world of difference. I'm talking about ZERO static!
3. Furthermore, from sleep mode, the BT device and headset "woke up" simultaneously for an incoming call after about one ring. I had no problems answering and hanging up from the MFB on the headset.
Wow, from this initial glimpse I am very impressed with the BT performance on this device, especially when benchmarked against the 6600 (which was so piss-poor I hardly ever used it).
Haven't tried GPS yet, but that's on tap for later tonight.
