I have used Mapopolis for quite a while, and I like it a lot. MOST of my experience with it, however, is on the Pocket PC platform which is a little better for this kind of thing because of the larger display and multitasking. That said, I think I can answer your questions. You can do turn by turn instructions during navigation. The way it works is that you put in your starting point and destination first. You can select each from a variety of ways... GPS, Address, Point of Interest, Favorite, Point on the Map, etc. Then it calculates the route and has both text instructions, and guided instructions. If you chose to be guided, then it splits the screen and shows the next instruction with an arrow at the bottom, while showing a moving map on the top. If you have instructions that will be in close succession, it further splits the bottom of the screen to show you both instructions.

This only works if the maps are loaded on your device ahead of time. Mapopolis divides their maps by county, and then there is a statewide highway map. You will need to put them on an SD card, so it really depends on how big your card is, whether you can keep everything on there. What I do is keep about 6 counties that I frequent, on my card all the time. If I plan to take a trip, then I figure out which counties and highway maps I need, and load them. You are best to keep the number of maps to a minimum because it effects some things like memory space, and speed. For example, when searching for a point of interest, you end up with a lot larger list for it to search.

One thing to check on before ordering is which Mapopolis you get, as they have a huge selection of options. I would guess that this is a 1 year subsription to the Palm OS Navigator, which sells for $99, but please make sure before you order. You can also find out from Mapopolis about upgrades to the software and maps. The way Mapopolis works is that their software is free, but you pay for the different map options, and they have a lot of them.
