P800 drains battery within a couple of hours!

Hi,

I'm a newbie to the mobile phone world, but a friend sold me a Sony P800, but I've been having a few problems with it.

Firstly, although the phone is a marvel of modern technology, I can not use it for more than a couple of hours a day! - 3 at the most!

at first I thought it was the phone's charger (a 3rd party one), so I searched around ebay and found a genuine Sony Ericsson charger, which, although it looked as though it was charging the battery, the battery still drained at a rapid rate.

So, I also purchased another 'brand new' 1250mAh battery, and the effect is the same - it will show no more than 95% charge, even when on the charger for a couple of days - and drains almost immediately, upon disconnection from the charger - with a lot of heat emitted from the rear flap!

According to the Sony/Ericsson manual, the battery indicator is supposed to 'pulse' when it is charging, and when the phone is off, the light is supposed to flash 'red' in colour - My phone does not do this - instead, the green LED flashes, and although the phone is left on the charger for days, that's all the LED will do!

At first, I thought it may have been, because I inserted the Power connector in the opposite way round, when I first bought the phone - but upon further examination, I found that this was impossible!

Could my phone be faulty?

If so, is it an easy fix?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
