I found a fix, but I don't know why it works. I installed TakePhone, the application and the hack, and later deleted the application but kept the hack active and the problem disappeared. Disabled the hack and the problem came back.
I had no problem with TakePhone, but just wasn't that thrilled with it, although others apparently are and I pick up that the programmer is extraordinarily responsive.
