The border of faded color around the edge of the screen is a known issue. It happened to me as well and has been reported here (under differing descriptions) before. It's usually described as yellow, but I found it to be a faint yellowish white. The shape of the border is exactly as you depict in your following diagram.

Take it to Sprint, they will replace the phone.
